Excellent Authentic Jamaican Cooking My husband and I Had the Jerk Pork Dinner with Rice Peas and Cabbage It was Just the Way we like it Spicy and Favorable down to the Bone We had Search several places that served this dish and Island Choice Nailed it !!! On the Head !!! No need to look any further Trust me you can not go wrong The Owner / Server takes pride in her Restaurant Clean Place and very customer friendly This Will definitely be " my Spot"

The service was wonderful and the food was delicious!!! I went at 5:30 on a Wednesday, and after my order was filled they said they were already sold out of oxtails. Folks were visibly disappointed. After tasting my oxtail dinner, I understood their disappointment. The food was really good & plentiful. I forgot to take a picture of it.

Been to island choice a couple times for the oxtail. Parking can be limited in front of the house, you can park on the lot over the fence where Avon park diner is. They accept cash or card. The wait time for your order can take a bit of time for them to prepare but they give you a decent amount for the large oxtail dish. The plantains are well made, the oxtail is nice and tender with the sauce having a slight kick with seasoning, with a large bed of rice.

Me and my auntie wanted to visit island Choice because it's were my mom had taken me when I was 11 before her passing, we came back years later to the same place and it was still the greatest thing a had ever tasted. There ox tails were seasoned right there rice was steamed and there cabbage fresh I've never been so alive to come back here There drinks were cold and fresh as well For new people that visit Florida I Recommend coming here for a good Jamaican food experience. 10/100

Best food yet with great amounts provided. Very great customer service with a very friendly attitude. Would very much recommend 10/10.

Great experience, even better food. Generous portions of very tasty island food. Will be a returning customer.

I visited Island Choice for lunch yesterday and had a good experience. I ordered the Curry Goat with Rice and Cabbage. I decided on the small portion and I'm glad I did because I received a mountain of food, which was more than enough for one hungry person. The food is served to go but there is available indoor and outdoor seating if you want to dine in. The goat was tender, rich and gamey with a light curry flavor. The sides of rice and cabbage were soft and savory and paired nicely with the meat. Overall, Island Choice is a nice spot for quality food.

In Avon Park directly behind Avon Park Diner. Hidden gem right off of Route 27 behind a new wooden fence. Look for the Jamaican flags. Look for the white house with reddish orange trim. Living further south in highlands county, I performed an online search with no luck for Jamaican food three years ago. I just discovered it recently and I'm ecstatic. Before my recent discovery, I would travel down to Fort Lauderdale for similar fare every few weeks. You don't see the food in front of you behind glass at a buffet table like you would see further south in Fort Lauderdale/ Miami Jamaican joints. Down south you can see what is running low or just recently cooked. At those establishments, you just point or request and server makes your plate. Here you don't have that advantage. Menu board items change routinely. Go early because they sell out of their daily selections quickly. I dined in on my first visit and by end of my dining thirty minutes later four menu items sold out. Not being able to visualize the offerings makes it tough if you're a newbie. Being able to see the food beforehand tremendously helps when exploring a non native cuisine if you aren't from that ethnicity. I guess Yelp can help with that. The food is magnificent. Fresh and with that homemade granny quality. Small daily rotating menu. No dumplings nor boiled green bananas were offered on my last two visits. Patties and fritters are on offer though. Large selection of tropical juices and sodas. Prices are fair and portions are generous. Staff treats you like family with their southern hospitality. I believe I met the owner but I was so excited with my new discovery that I forgot to get her name. I'll update review later. She did tell me that before she opened up twelve years ago she would have to venture south to Miami, her hometown, for Jamaican fare. Cake and sweet potato pie are also available. I'm in love. Before moving to highlands county, I would eat Jamaican at least 1-2 times a week. The last three years have been dreadful without my weekly Caribbean fix. Now that miserable past is over and my future looks "Sunny & Bright". Go check them out & Enjoy!

My toes are tapping as island music bounces around in my head. Yelp excels at helping me find tiny wonderful little places like this! LOCATION- Ten seconds off Route 27 South in teeny tiny Avon Park but you'll never see it without the help of the Yelp map. CUSTOMER SERVICE- This is one of those places where you order at the counter. The friendly guy with the island accent flashed me a big smile with a gold tooth and the music started in my head again. Could I have been transported to Jamaica? ATOMOSHERE- Giant parking lot. Tiny little place with about four tables and ice cold air conditioning. Big covered outside deck. Expect everything to come in foam containers with plastic utensils. Elegant it's not but who cares when the food is this good. FOOD- I ordered the small Curried Chicken with a side of corn @ $7 but I could have had goat, or pork or oxtail, or snapper and even more. PRO TIP- Most dishes come in small and large and the portions are ginormous. If you order a large a football team would be happy. Yes I'm exaggerating but not by much! My chicken was piping hot and incredible! Multiple flavors just bursting in my mouth with every bite. I'm embarrassed to say that there is drool on my keyboard as I type this. Yes it's a hole-in-the-wall and you need to be ready to embrace that but your taste buds will thank you!
